How news differs online to print

 Mail Online:

The Daily Mail:

These are different as the Mail Online has a lot more stories in one place, whereas the print version only features 2 main stories. The online version seems more crammed and unprofessional however the Daily Mail looks less crowded and more easy to read.

The Guardian Online:

The Guardian:

This online version of the guardian is quite organised and set out in columns, you have to click into the stories to properly read there, unlike the daily mail, where the stories all have little splashes under the story title. The print version of the guardian is also neat and organised, the stories on here have splashes, however they're still set out neat and aren't too in your face.

The differences between Broadsheet and Tabloid

A tabloid newspaper has informal, melodramatic and over exaggerated headlines which use Bold colours, fonts and sizes. They also use more slang and informal language throughout. They cover 'gossip' stories, for example; celebrity news, scandals and also talk lots about sports. In their articles, they use more pictures, larger fonts and more quotes as well as less factual details, more speculation and writers have an obvious bias.

A broadsheet newspaper is more formal. They cover global and national stories on things like politics and finance. The headlines are factual and serious and the articles are highly researched and accurate, they're typically neutral and unbiased. They don't have many photos or quotes and have smaller font sizes.

Music Videos: Titanium & Heaven

 Titanium:

The story in the video is about a young boy who is isolated from society. He starts the music video in an empty high school corridor which looks destroyed. The boy then walks down the corridor and we see a teacher who looks panicked and is on the phone to someone, upon seeing the boy she closes the door and looks even more scared.The boy then runs and leaves the school building, followed shortly by the teacher who runs out and meets some police officers and points towards the boy who is riding off on a bike. He then rides quickly back to his home and rushes to pack some things, it is in this scene when we find out that it was a supernatural event that happened at the school, and it becomes clear that the boy caused this. The police then arrive at his house and he rushes to get out through the back door, however it was locked. The boy then uses his powers to summon the keys which are on the table. He then makes it out and begins to trek through the woods. He is eventually hunted down by officers and forced down on the ground, and then he causes another explosion in the final scene of the video which throws back the police officers which were pointing guns at him.

This is a long shot of the boy at the beginning of the Video. It is effective as it shows him alone and isolated at the end of a corridor, and makes him seem small which could reflect how he is feeling. Scared, alone and small.

This is a tracking shot of the boy cycling away from the school. This point of view shows that the boy is being chased by someone or something. This could mean the police or it could symbolize how he has been running away from something inside of him.

This is a medium close up of the boy when we first see him use his powers. It's effective because it shows him confident in himself for the first time throughout the video.

This is a long shot of the boy when he is caught. This is effective as it is the same position he is in when the music video starts, which could show how he has ended up how he started because people wouldn't let him be himself, despite how he was free and happy walking through the woods.

Heaven:

In this music video, it shows various different people getting on with their lives.

A monster escapes from the upside down and kidnaps 12 year old Will Byers on his way home from his friend Mikes house. As well as a monster escaping the lab, a young psychokinetic girl called Eleven escapes too. She goes originally to a cafe where the owner takes pity on her and feeds her before calling social services to come pick her up. The cafe is raided by people from the Lab pretending to be Social Services, they kill the owner and try to take Eleven back to the Lab however she uses her powers and manages to get away. She then meets Mike, Dustin and Lucas who hide her in Mikes basement for the night after they find her alone in the dark woods.

This is a medium close up shot of Eleven after she has escaped the laboratory
She is wearing a hospital gown, and the background is the beginning of a forest which she had previously been walking through. This shot is the first time we are introduced to Eleven, and it is the morning after she escaped the lab.

This is also a medium close up shot of Will moments before he gets kidnapped.
In this scene, Will is holding a gun up at the closed door of his shed waiting for the monster which has been chasing him. This shot type is effective as it really captures the fear on his face. This is the last scene we see Will before he is kidnapped.

This a is a medium close up shot of Will's mother on the phone to his Father's girlfriend.
It is taken from inside their home, and his mother is wearing her works uniform still which shows how she is worried about her son as she doesn't bother getting changed, she just desperately contacts the police and then his father. This shot is effective as it shows the disgust on her face when Wills fathers girlfriend is incredibly rude to her and doesn't allow her to explain how Will is missing.

Research of shot types

 What is a camera shot?

A camera shot is composed of the series of frames that are shot uninterrupted from the moment the camera starts rolling until it stops. Camera shots are an essential aspect of film making and video productions, because by combining different types of shots, angles and camera movements, the filmmakers are able to emphasize specific emotions, ideas and movement for each scene.

The different types of shots:

1) An extreme long (or wide) shot - this shot will make the subject of your photo seem small against their location. This shot could be used to make the subject seem distant or unfamiliar, or it could also be used to make the subject feel overwhelmed by the location.

For example;

2) A long (or wide) shot - this is the same as an extreme long shot only a little close to the subject. The subjects whole body is in the frame but doesn't fill it. This shot allows us to see the background imagery and gives us a better idea of the scene setting and how characters fit into the scene.

For example;

3) A full shot - the subject fills the frame of the photo, however there is still an emphasis kept on scenery. Full shots can be used to include multiple characters in one shot.

For example;

4) A medium wide shot - this frames the subject from the around knees up, and can be shot from any angle. It splits the difference between a full shot and a wide shot.

For example;

5) Cowboy shot - this frames the subject from around mid thigh and up. It gets its name as it is used commonly in western films to frame a gunslingers gun/holster on their hip.

For example;

6) A medium shot - this is one of the most common types of camera shot and frames the subject from around waist up and through the torso so it emphasis is on the subject but the background is still visible. It is similar to the cowboy shot.

For example;

7) A medium close up shot - this shot is from around chest up but focuses mainly on the face. The background of the photo is visible still however the subject is the main emphasis of the shot.

For example;

8) A close up shot - The frame is filled with a part of the subject (if the subject is a person it is usually the face). This shot could be used for showing a subjects emotions and reactions. It is a perfect shot for catching important moments in a film.

For example;

9) An extreme close up shot - in this shot the subject completely fills the frame. It is used to emphasize important details, some of the most common things to be included in an extreme close up are eyes, mouths or gun triggers.
